2021. 6 months in and I’m not sure how to feel. Considering 2020 was one heck of a ride, 2021 is going…well…not as bad as 2020 but I can’t say it’s better either.

I think I speak for all of us when I say no one really knows what to expect, but we just hoping and praying it gets better.

There has never been a better time to start taking good care of yourself. It's so easy to feel anxious and overwhelmed from what’s happening around the world, but I just want to encourage you to not take it lying down.

Don’t let yourself be anxious. Don’t let yourself be overwhelmed. Jesus Christ is our hope. Fix your eyes on Him and know that all things will work out for our good.

It might not look so, but somedays you’ll see that in this season you learned that you are stronger than you thought, that you're braver than you seem. And that you are resilient and can bounce back from any challenges.

Self-care is so vital in this season.

I’ve made a list of 9 things you can do to improve your overall well-being.

1. Schedule a weekly virtual chat with your favorite person.

2. Keep a gratitude list — you can write down 5 things you are grateful for every day.

3. Learn something new — You can sign up for an online course on any topic you interested in or head over to Skillshare, which has amazing masterclasses on almost any topic. I personally love Skillshare because I am a visual learner.

4. Discover new podcasts — and listen to them daily. I recently discovered The Daring Romantics by Lindsay Eryn. I love love her podcasts, they are so relatable and after every episode, I walk away feeling refreshed.

5. Declutter — your space. your devices. I can not explain the kind of relief I get after decluttering my space. Try it, I can be really freeing.

6. Disconnect — Sometimes all you need is to disconnect from it all and just spend alone time with yourself or with God. I personally value quiet time because, after every session, I feel a thousand times better and in a better headspace.

7. Prayer Journal — journal your prayers

8. Spend time with God — since we now have more time, we can spend more time with God by studying His word, praying, and taking the time to sit quietly in His presence.

9. Set New Goals — It’s the perfect time to revise your goals, do away with goals that no longer serve you, and set new goals that align with your vision or a new direction in life.

Before you go

Remember to take it easy, be kind to yourself. No one is expecting you to be superman, but don’t lead yourself down the rabbit hole.

Self-care is more than bubble baths and staying positive. Yes, it may look different for everyone but the I believe that the essence of self-care is to love yourself enough to push yourself and lead yourself to places of self-development.

Sometimes it means choosing to invest that money instead of buying those pink heels, or removing toxic people from your life even if it hurts. Those decisions may not always be easy, but deep down we recognize and know that there are necessary for us to be truly who we were destined to be.

Take care of yourself. No one will ever do it as well as you can.
